The Walking Dead are taking over Toronto.
I won’t be able to go, but I was told that there will be walkers going to Union Station this evening in order to celebrate the return of the television show.
For those of you who do not watch the Walking Dead, shame on you. It’s a great show and while at first I rolled my eyes at it because zombies have basically been done beyond death… I was surprised at how into the show I became. Despite the zombie aspect of it, it’s a very character driven show and while it has been receiving accolades from everyone, there’s not much that I could say which would pimp it any more than it already has been.
Unfortunately, I don’t have cable and there is no way for me to watch it online through Netflix. American Netflix is so much better than Canadian Netflix that it isn’t even funny. I’m not sure if it has to do with a licensing issue, but they really need to step up their game. Right now, Netflix isn’t a viable option for someone who wants to watch current shows as we have to wait until the entire season is over and then a bit longer to get our episodes.
If you want to watch older shows which have long since stopped airing though, Netflix isn’t a bad bet.
But back to the Walking Dead, it doesn’t quite beat out Doctor Who for me, but it is the show that has come the closest. While I’ve watched other Supernatural shows (namely Supernatural itself), the character development isn’t as focused and tight as the Walking Dead. Plus, Supernatural while having the loveable Dean does not have Daryl. If they end up killing off Daryl, I don’t think I’ll know what to do with myself.
It’s funny though. Once we started talking about Zombies in the work place, I discovered that there were many people here who loved them. Not just the guys that you were expecting, but pretty girls who participated in Zombie walks and completely gored themselves out for them (I’m looking at you Sandra).
As tired of a cliche as Zombies have become there is something that remains fun about them that Pirates and Ninjas have lost. Maybe it’s because zombification could technically happen to all of us without a need for training. After all, we’d only need to be eaten alive to come back as a hideous monster with only its animal instinct remaining. So in a strange way, if the zombie apocalypse were to break out it would bring us all down to he same level regardless of creed, class, money and all that jazz.
